Mama Hoo Hoo and Francisco recently got a visit from a broken winged gull. They were not happy about it. Gulls will eat both eggs and chicks, so they were right to be concerned.
You can see Mama Hoo Hoo and Francisco do the “broken wing” defense. They are flailing around in the sand, pretending that they are injured, to encourage the gull to attack them instead of their eggs or babies. This is a very brave move, but when done correctly, they will be able to lead the gull away from the eggs. You can even hear them grunting as they try to get the gull’s attention.
While it is a predator, it is hard not to feel bad for this poor gull. He doesn’t seem interested in anything but finding a safe spot to rest!
